AFC organic vegetable project was initiated as a staff welfare initiative to promote healthy eating habits among the members of AFC family, whilst supporting the popularizing organic farming. AFC engaged Mihimadala organic Farms located in Bandarawela and Maho to source upcountry and low country vegetables to Colombo, for our staff members.

This service has gained momentum during the COVID -19 lockdown period, where they started to home deliver the organic produce to our staff members. We were able to engage several other interested outside buyers also, to source organic vegetables from Mihimadala.

Organic farming has many environmental and social benefits, from soil preparation stage to final consumption stage. Organic farming requires lower tillage and in turn necessitates lower machinery/human power for soil preparation making it a low energy required operation. Other key benefits include soil enrichment, producing chemical free, healthy food, lessening the soil erosion and contributing towards minimizing global warming.
